Who stands behind the mark
Egyptian Cotton Association is an NGO established in 2005, appointed by the owners of the mark to be globally responsible for its licensing programme. Members span the whole supply chain, from manufacturers and traders to international brands and retailers.
About ECA →Backed by the buyers
who stock the mark
We support the measures being taken by the ECA to root out dishonest manufacturers and counterfeit goods from the supply chain.
We fully support the new accreditation process put into place by the ECA to protect the Egyptian Cotton™ brand.
The ECA are to be applauded for listening to retailer concerns.
What applicants
ask us most
If your question is not here, our accreditation team answers directly.
Talk to the team →Who can apply for a license?+
Companies across the supply chain can apply. Accreditation covers the whole supply chain, from the cotton bale number to retailers’ shelves.
How is the cotton actually verified?+
The traceability of Egyptian cotton is audited throughout the supply chain to ensure its authenticity. Random production orders are traced back to the Egyptian cotton bale ID, audits can be advised or unadvised, and samples are DNA tested. Licensed companies report their Egyptian cotton purchases and sales, and quantities are monitored quarterly.
What does a license give my company?+
The right to use the mark on licensed products and a listing on the public registry, where anyone can verify your license.
What happens if a company misuses the mark?+
Accreditation can be suspended or withdrawn, and the association publishes suspended licenses and blacklisted companies openly.
